Full Description

To minimize fossil fuel consumption, the full potentials of alternative energy sources mustbe utilized. Many present efforts to reduce energy needs in comfort systems continue thephilosophy and technology that caused much of the present energy crises since, with theconventional systems replaced, they are designed to overpower the local climate. For somelocations, however, building materials and forms can be adapted to the climate through themovable insulation principle, leading to alternative heating and cooling systems shown notonly to make conventional thermal control unnecessary, but also to produce a higher levelof comfort at lower life costs. This presentation gives the results of the most recentapplication of these principles to the design of a conventional single-story residence.
