Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Long Beach Water Department (LBWD) and its desalination program. Research on fouling control is presented, along with the test impact of blending desalinationpermeate on corrosion. Conclusions indicate that: generation method for ClOsub2/sub is key; "free chlorine" free ClOsub2/sub have beensuccessfully applied onto PA membranes for580 ppm-hours without noticeable damage tothe membranes; ClOsub2/sub is rejected during the desalinationprocess; the application of chlorine dioxide controlledbiofouling in cartridge filter system; post treatment testing facility construction iscomplete; CI, DI, and steel preconditioning stability; during preconditioning, pipes weresuperchlorinated and may have destabilizedscale; however, more recent data suggest thenew scale formation is stronger than previousscale; and, blending studies have begun and will proceedfor the next 6 months. Includes tables, figures.
